Making stuff...from stuff

I know, rather articulate, huh?!  I made this fun card for my in-laws for Thanksgiving, they won't be with us on the actual day so I wanted to make sure they had something from us reminding them how thankful we are for THEM!! This card features some fun repurposed items, such as a shoelace from my husband's boot, black ribbon cut out from the shoulder hanger staps in a dress, and netting from some cinnamon pine cones (mmmm, cinnamon). All items were literally plucked out of the trash (no goobers on them, I promise).  The leaves are leftovers from my leaf garland, would you say the book is repurposed too? I suppose I saved that from the trash where it was destined to end up.  And isn't that jeweled, gaudy brad just fabulous? I'm trying to figure out how to incorporate that into some clothing or jewelry, it's so cool!

If I had to describe the style of this card, I would say it was e¢ocrafting. (That was my inner nerd escaping for a moment.)

So, what have you repurposed in your crafting adventures? I would love to hear about it!!

Getting organized using a little bit of this and a little bit of that

While contemplating whether or not to purchase a ribbon organizer this week, I had a fabulous idea. Why not use a slack hanger I already had, along with office clips, bobby pins, and paper clips to make my own ribbon organizer? This way, the $ I do spend...can be spent on more fun stuff, not boring organizational stuff.

So, here's how it came out. The spools spin to allow me to take ribbon off, and I can clip it right off the roll. The rolled up ribbon will have creases in it, but I can use an iron (or flat iron?) on them to take care of that. Not bad for using all supplies I have on hand!

I purchased my hanger years ago, but saw something quite similar at Target recently for around $5, the arms need to swing out allowing you to slide ribbon spools on.

What organizing ideas have you seen/come up with? I'd love to hear your tips!

All for charity

Boots and Bling is the theme, raising money for a great cause-Stepping Stones, an adult day-care facility.  I whipped up these little tags to be attached to wine charms (thru the eyelet) on champagne glasses, the numbers will help identify one lucky winner of a pair of gold earrings!! This was short notice, or else I would have tried to add some more dimension, but you work with what you have, right?? My crop-a-dile sure came in handy!

Off to the gala, and perhaps I'll be sipping on the winning glass of champagne...I just love all those delightful little bubbles.

What have you been inspired to create for causes near and dear to your heart?
